Obesity expert James O. Hill, Ph.D., from CU’s new Anschtuz Health and Wellness Center, is leading the 5th Gear Kids program. Program developers are Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation, Anschutz Health and Wellness Center, Aurora Public Schools and Cherry Creek School District. Funded by The Colorado Health Foundation, this program is the first collaborative program between two school districts. The program was created through cooperative and synergistic relationships between all of the program developers. 5th Gear Kids was designed to provide greater access to physical activity and healthy eating opportunities, and to increase the desirability among 5th graders to participate in healthy lifestyles. The program is currently rolling out to 5th graders in Aurora Public Schools and Cherry Creek School District.
